And now that my soul might have joy in you, and that my heart might leave this world with gladness because of you, that I might not be brought down with grief and sorrow to the grave, arise from the dust, my sons, and be men, and be determined in one mind and in one heart, united in all things, that ye may not come down into captivity. 2 Nephi 1:21

Elder Scott just promised me that I will learn Spanish.

After the Devotional
Hi Everyone

So this was a pretty good week!!  This past Tuesday Elder Scott came and spoke at our weekly devotional and he was awesome. The spirit was so strong. It was like as soon as he walked into the room a spirit tsunami just came rushing in and laid us all out.  It was crazy!!
Elder Scott talked about prayer. Lately I have been feeling like my zone has been abusing prayer because they pray for every little thing and to me that’s just not right.  I can see being thankful for every little thing but not continually praying for things you have no intention of working for.  So Elder Scott’s talk I felt was meant for us.  The thing that stuck out the most to me was that we just can't pray and except it to happen without working for it or doing something and that’s kind of how its been around here.  Everyone is expecting that the language will just come because they are praying that it will and yet they don’t work very hard during the week to learn it.
Elder Scott said that we must first do everything that we can to accomplish what it is we are praying for and then ask the Lord for help and then he will help us.  He also us an analogy where he said that if don't open our mouths then we can't get food into our mouths and eventually we will die.  The same goes for the gospel; if we don't open our minds and our hearts to the spirit then we will die spiritually.  The lord can't feed us when our mouth is closed!! So we must work and open our minds and our hearts and then pray to Heavenly Father and he will fill our spirits with nourishment.  So we must work and then ask.
The coolest part of the devotional was that Elder Scott, on behalf of the First Presidency and twelve apostles blessed those of us that where learning a language that we would have the gift of tongues.  Whoa! When he said that me and two other Elders were going nuts!! Elder Scott just promised me that I will learn Spanish.  Awe that’s the coolest thing ever!!

So Monday night I was laying in bed and my companion said that we still needed to pray and I told him that I didn't want to because I was too tired.  He then told me that that is when you need to pray the most.  I just laid there a little longer and then finally I rolled out of bed and prayed.  It was probably the best prayer that I have ever given! The first thing is that it was actually longer then a minute. Ha Ha! But seriously, the spirit was so strong for some reason. I could just feel the angels around us.  When I woke up the next morning my companion and I both agreed that it was our best nights sleep since we had been in the MTC.  So that was Monday night and then the next day was the devotional and of course it was on prayer and I really needed it.  Elder Scott said" When you don't desire to pray that is when you need to pray the most, don't ever feel too unworthy to talk to your Father in Heaven, he will always listen" That was good for me because the night before I didn't want to pray, but that night I needed it the most and this past week has just been a good one!! Still having a hard time praying before I eat though, it’s just so hard when I have food in front of me to think of praying when all I want to do is eat.  I will have to keep working on that one.

I’m going to have a 6-hour layover tomorrow in Houston, so if you’re lucky I might call tomorrow afternoon.   Good luck this week with the first football game.  I got a lot of money on it this week so you better win. Ha ha!  Bronson bro I love you homie please write me. Same with you Hollie, Miriah and Brit!!
